In December 2006, WyeTec undertook a major redevelopment and restructuring of the Peak District Mines Historical Society (PDMHS) web site.
The information held within the PDMHS web site provides an invaluable resource for historians, genealogists, researchers, mine explorers,
cavers, potholers, local study groups and students amongst others.

Planning the reorganisation
Enabling this vast resource of information to be presented in an accessible and logical format
required considerable thought and careful planning. Not only was there already a colossal amount of
data contained within the web site, it was clear that the archive of information would continue to expand
and grow organically in the future. Any reorganisation of the site material needed this to be taken into
consideration.
British Library archive enquiry
In May 2008, the Peak District Mines Historical Society was approached by the British Library web archive service,
who wished to archive the web site. This has highlighted the importance and value of the web site as a central source of important historical
information and is perhaps testament to the way in which the relevant resources have been indexed and presented. Permission was granted to the
British Library in August 2008 by the management committee of PDMHS for the archiving of the site.
Future preservation of web site
As the British Library web archive develops, the hope is that many, if not all, of the web pages will be preserved and that in future the PDMHS can
rest assured that, in addition to the ongoing archive of the site maintained by WyeTec, an external archive of the valuable material contained
within the web site will be generated. WyeTec anticipate that this will continue to be created, to safeguard the site contents for the benefit of
future generations of mining history enthusiasts and other interested parties. If you would like to track the archive of the Peak District Mines
Historical Society web site maintained by the British Library, please use this link.
