A dynamic and affordable CMS web siteAutomotive People Potential needed first and foremost a means of advertising their services. Key elements of the brief included a requirement for a simple, fresh, clean design based on their own logo and corporate colours. But more importantly, the web site needed to be maintainable by the client. As the brand matures, company news articles, job vacancies and other information needs to be added to the site, without the need for the client to refer to the design team each time. A content management system (CMS) was clearly the way forwards, but the project didn't require the level of sophistication offered by the excellent and well-known Ektron CMS 400. The DotNetNuke (DNN) web application framework, based on Microsoft ASP.net, was a natural choice, with the system running on WyeTec's co-located servers with automatic off-site back-ups. The DNN functionality was extended with WyeTec developed code to provide improved integration with the Google and MSN sitemap tools. Simple, flexible and extensible CMSIdeally suited to small businesses, the DNN content management system is simple to use and easy to maintain. Its flexibility, coupled with ongoing support and development of the code, enable web developers to create dynamic web sites and applications with ease. Ideally suited to small businesses, the DNN content management system is simple to use and easy to maintain, making it an ideal choice for entry level or budget aware websites with a requirement for content management. A custom "skin" was designed to give Automotive People Potential a CMS website with their own corporate branding. With the menu structure defined and implemented, and the content management system populated with initial web copy, control over the website has now been handed over to the website owners, who can add, update or remove pages and content themselves. Of course, as with all WyeTec projects, post project support is on-hand, should it be required. |
